Three New Year’s PR resolutions for 2018

January is the perfect time to take stock of our PR performance and brainstorm new ways to improve. But while I’m terrible at sticking to New Year’s resolutions in my personal life, here are three professional ones I’m determined to keep.

1.    Ensure social media posts are fully aligned with the overall communications strategy

There’s no denying the influence of social media in today’s world – and senior leaders are urging us to help boost their presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. However, it can be easy to fall into the trap of ‘box-ticking’ at one end of the spectrum or getting carried away at the other. 2.    Incorporate survey and qualitative data into internal communications measurement

3.    Apply a campaign mind-set to regular PR work

Acting as an extension of our major clients’ communications teams means there’s sometimes a risk of getting bogged down in the everyday work. The remit is vast and we have a lot to get through. I hope that by taking a more structured approach this year and agreeing to complete a series of targeted mini campaigns we will be able to improve our strategic focus, better track our progress and provide more meaningful measurement.
